Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) in Nepal is one of the few programmes that provides students and graduates with all of the essential information to work in public health protection.

Bachelor of Public Health is a four-year programme offered by  three medical universities in Nepal, Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, and Purbanchal University, through their constituent and associated campuses.

The following are the goals of the Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) programme in Nepal:

• To improve measurement, planning, analysis, and evaluation skills for research and programme management in applied public health sciences.
• Develop and train abilities in epidemic logical elements of diseases and the health-care system.
• Encourage health professionals to have a positive attitude and to deliver more accessible and equitable Primary Health Care services to underserved groups and communities. Introduce public health, primary health, health systems development, health economics, nutrition, and environmental health, as well as improve knowledge and practical abilities in these areas.

Graduates of the Public Health programme can find work in a variety of government, non-government, private, and public organisations. Graduates are typically employed in the following fields:

Eligibility: 

The requirements for enrolling in Bachelor of Public Health BPH programmes in Nepal differ amongst medical universities in Nepal.

For Tribhuvan University, any student who has received at least a ‘C’ grade in all subjects in Class 11 and 12 (PCB & E) with an overall 2.4 GPA is eligible to take the Tribhuvan University entrance examination for admission.

Students who have received a minimum of 50% in aggregate, or 2.4 CGPA, and a minimum C+ grade in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB), as well as a minimum C grade in other disciplines, are eligible to take the Pokhara University BPH entrance exam.

Candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Public Health programme at Purbanchal University must have received a minimum C+ grade in aggregate and a minimum C grade in each subject in 10+2 or comparable examinations (BPH).

Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) Tribhuvan University

Tribhuvan University’s Bachelor in Public Health (BPH) programme is a four-year degree that prepares students to work as professional public health specialists. He or she is in charge of providing leadership to the community as well as middle and low-level health personnel. This will aid in the delivery of government-designed health-care services to the public.

In Nepal, the BPH programme is now offered by five Constituent and Affiliated Colleges of Tribhuvan University. They are as follows:

The Maharajgunj Medical Campus (MC) in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, is one of the Institute of Medicine’s nine campuses (IoM). Pokhara University offers a four-year Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) programme. The course seeks to equip students with all of the required scientific knowledge, technical skills, and human understanding to work in a variety of roles in health care programmes ranging from the community to the national level.

In Nepal, there are currently five public health colleges that provide the BPH programme, all of which are affiliated with Pokhara University. They are as follows:

Dhungepatan, Pokhara Kaski, is home to the Pokhara University School of Health and Allied Sciences. The “School of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences” was established in Pokhara City with the founding of the Faculty of Science and Technology in 1997. With a B.Pharm. programme, the school got off to a slow start. In 2003, School has started B.Sc.MLT program aiming to meet the challenges of the health of the 21st century in Nepal.

In 2008, the School has started a new Health Professional course; bachelor in Public Health. In 2003, the school began offering a B.Sc.MLT curriculum in order to prepare students for the health issues of the twenty-first century in Nepal.

Modern Technical College, which is located in Sanepa, Lalitpur, has its own multi-specialty polyclinic with pathology lab that has several branches of Histopathology, Cytopathology, Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Immunology where students can perform clinical practises. The college is affiliated with Pokhara University and offers B. Pharm, BPH, and B.Sc.MLT programmes.

Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) Purbanchal University:

The goal of the BPH programme is to produce professional public health experts with the greatest technical and management competence in district-level health initiatives, such as problem identification, planning, implementation, training, health education, and research.

Such experts can work in a variety of capacities at the national, regional, zonal, district, and local levels. They will be needed in a variety of governmental and non-governmental health agencies, hospitals, schools, and institutions. Purbanchal University’s College of Medical and Allied Sciences is one of the university’s constituent colleges. It’s in Gothgaun, Morang, and it’s called IMS. It provides bachelor’s degrees in public health, pharmacy, post-basic bachelor’s nursing (PBBN), and nursing science (B.Sc Nursing).
