MBBS Course –

The MBBS course is a five-year undergraduate course which includes one year of internship. The course is designed to provide students with a broad range of knowledge and skills in the medical field. The first four years of the course are spent studying basic and clinical sciences, while the fifth year is spent on internship.

BDS Course –

BDS is an undergraduate degree course in dentistry. The duration of the course is four years, divided into eight semesters. The course is divided into two parts: preclinical and clinical. The preclinical part includes subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and microbiology. The clinical part includes subjects such as pathology, pharmacology, and dental surgery.

Medical education in India leads to the degrees of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery).

The duration of MBBS course is 4.5 years + 1 year of internship, whereas the duration of BDS course is 4 years + 1 year of internship.

Both MBBS and BDS courses are recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI), respectively.

The admission to MBBS and BDS courses is through NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The minimum eligibility criterion for appearing in NEET is that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually.

The syllabus for MBBS and BDS courses is almost similar. Both the courses include subjects like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, etc.

The main difference lies in the fact that BDS course also includes subjects like Dental Anatomy, Dental Materials, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Conservative Dentistry, etc.

The scope of MBBS and BDS courses is also different. A MBBS graduate can either opt for further studies and become a specialist doctor or can set up his/her own clinic.

A BDS graduate can either opt for further studies or become a dental surgeon or can set up his/her own clinic.

So, it can be concluded that MBBS and BDS courses are different in terms of duration, syllabus and scope.

However, both the courses are essential for a career in medicine and dentistry, respectively.
