As we all know India tries to keep healthy and peaceful relationship with its neighboring countries, Nepal as one of its neighbor states keeps a similar type of relationship. The Indian international relation with Nepal keeps on getting better in many different aspects and one of the aspects that keeps the two countries connected is through education and embassy.

Indian Embassy is located in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal and the Indian Embassy provides scholarship for Nepali students for both study course programs in Nepal and study course programs in India as well. The Indian Embassy also provides scholarship for training purposes to Nepali personnel for upgrading their personal skills and carrying it forward as a professional career.

Indian government through the Indian Embassy contributes around 3000 seats of scholarship to nepali students and nepali nationals for undergoing various range of studies such as engineering, agriculture, pharmacology, computer application, business administration, music and fine arts etc. at different levels like Class Xl and Bachelors for study in Nepal, Bachelors, PhD and Masters in India in recognized institutes, schools, colleges in recognized universities which provides 100% scholarship schemes for Nepali students.

The scholarship schemes are valid for Nepali students to study both in Nepal and study in India scholarship schemes.

The scholarship schemes for Nepali students through the Indian Embassy are listed below as:

  1. Compex Scholarship Scheme:

Under this scheme, the Indian Embassy provides admission with scholarships to undergraduate courses in Engineering (BE), B.Pharmacy, Agriculture (B.Sc-Agri), Dairy Technology (B.Sc-DT) and B.Sc Nursing in Indian Institutes and Universities.

Announced tentatively in April/May.

  • Ayush Scholarship Scheme:

Under Ayush, Indian Embassy provides admission to UG, PG, PhD courses in Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy teaching of medicines and diagnostics in Indian Institutes.

Announced tentatively in May/June.

  • APS Scholarship Scheme:

Under this scheme, admission is provided to school level study courses ranging from Std. Vl to Xl (both boys and girls) in Army Public Schools (APS) in APS Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Std. Vl to lX (boys) in APS Dhaula Kuan (Delhi) and Std. Vl to lX (girls) in APS Noida (UP).

Announced tentatively in January/February every year.

  • General Scholarship Scheme (GSS):

Under GSS, admission and scholarship is provided for undergraduate courses in BBA, BCA, BA, BA (Hons.), B.Sc., B.Com, BA (Music/Fine Arts) in Indian Institutes under Indian Universities.

Announced tentatively in December/January every year.

  • SAARC Scholarship Scheme:

Under SAARC (South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation) scheme, the Indian Embassy provides admission in Indian Institutes of Hospitality and Hotel Management.

This scheme is announced tentatively in December/January every year.

  • Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme (SJSS):

Under SJSS, admission is provided to Nepali students for MBA, MCA, MA, M.Sc., and PhD in all streams of education except for Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine and Para-medical courses.

Scheme is announced tentatively in December/January every year.

  • Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Scholarship Scheme:

Under this scheme, the Indian Embassy provides admission and scholarship to Nepali students in Master of Engineering (ME) course program in Indian Universities and Institutions.

Scheme is announced tentatively in December/January every year.

  • Nepal Aid Fund Scholarship Scheme:

Under Nepal Aid Fund Scholarship Scheme, the Embassy of India provides admission and scholarship to Nepali candidates in M.Sc. Agriculture in Indian Institutes and Universities.

This scheme is announced tentatively in December/January every year.

  • Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme:

Under Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Scheme, Indian Embassy provides scholarship to Nepali students enrolled in Std. Xl in recognized schools in Nepal.

Selected students or Scholars will be awarded scholarship amount of NRs. 2000/- per month for the first year and will be continued to keep this scholarship valid if the student/scholar obtains 50% or more grades in Std. Xl. The scholarship may expire or be discontinued if the student obtains less grade than 50% or for any other reason the embassy may observe necessary.

This scheme is tentatively announced in November/December every year.

  1. Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme:

Under the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme, the Indian Embassy provides with scholarships to students enrolled in Bachelor of undergraduate courses (1st semester of 1st year) in recognized educational institutions in Nepal in the field of medicines, engineering and other courses.

Selected students or scholars will be awarded a scholarship amount of NRs. 4000/- per month. The scholarship amount for students in other disciplines will be NRs. 3000/- per month. The students must obtain 50% or more grades every year to keep the scholarship valid and continuing and if the student obtains less than 50% grades in any subsequent year, the scholarship may expire. The scholarship can also be discontinued if the Embassy deems it necessary to do so.

This scheme is tentatively announced in November/December every year.

Apart from the above mentioned schemes, there are few other self-financing scholarship schemes for Nepali students in India.

The self-financing schemes of Study in India scholarship programs for Nepali students are mentioned below:

  • MBBS/BDS and PG Medical:

Under this scheme, a limited number of seats are offered for MBBS and Post-Graduation (PG) medical courses in India. NEET PG score is mandatory for candidates seeking for admission in MBBS/BDS and PG medical courses in India. The PG medical course is allotted at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi.

Fees for entire curriculum of study of these medical courses under self-finance in India are mandatorily decided by the respective institutes/colleges and Universities.

Submission of application form for MBBS/BDS is announced on Indian Embassy’s website and PG Medical is announced on Indian Embassy’s notice board.

This scheme is commenced tentatively in February/March every year.

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BE) courses:

Applicants are invited to study in India their BE self-finance course with applications commencing from February/March every year. Application form can be notified about and can be submitted in the Indian Embassy’s website. BE courses’ fees are decided mandatorily by the respective colleges/institutions and Universities.

Notice of Application:

The release of notifications and submitting the online application forms for all of the above Indian Embassy scholarship schemes for Nepali students are announced in the local newspapers, put up as a notice in the notice board uploaded in the Indian Embassy’s website (www.indembkathmandu.gov.in) near to the time of the opening of the schemes.

Applications must be filled online and the basic guidelines are mentioned at the Indian Embassy’s website under the heading ‘Education/Scholarship’.

The Indian Embassy mentiones eligibility criteria in its website (www.indembkathmandu.gov.in) and candidates can visit the website for knowledge of exact opening dates of schemes.
