The commission decided it was necessary to prepare a common syllabus in cooperation with specialists from various institutions that have experience with DM/MCh entrance tests in order to administer the DM/MCh common entrance examination working under the name of MEC Nepal.

The main responsibilities of the commission are to formulate policies and regulations related to medical education; to monitor and inspect medical institutions; to review and approve applications for new medical courses; to register medical graduates and to provide guidance and advice for the development of medical education in Nepal.
