Situated Matri tole, in Kathmandu, looked after by the Welfare Fund of Nepali army and managed by Welfare Planning Directorate, Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu is a non-profit medical institution whose directorate consists of relevant staff of the Nepali Army under the leadership of Chief Army Staff.

It comprises of three departmental colleges under the name of Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu:

  1. College of Medicine
  2. College of Nursing
  3. College of Medical Polytechnic

Eligibility for admission into Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu:

The following conditions and criterion must be met by the willing candidate for acceptance into Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu for the MBBS degree. These standards have been set following the strict guidelines of Tribhuvan University, recognised by Medical Council of Nepal:

  1. The candidate must have completed their 17 years of age.
  2. They must have passed their 10+2 standard or Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and their major subjects and must not have less than 50% marks in the average aggregate calculated on the basis of these major subjects.

OR

Have completed a bachelor’s degree in any of the subjects: Physics, Chemistry or Biology (B.Sc) from a recognised University, and has studied one other science subject till the ancillary level , with not less than a 50% aggregate and meets the above condition and aggregate requirements of the 10+2 standard.

  • Resident Nepali students have to take the IOM exam, which is considered to be the determinant of merit for admission to this college. Students who are applying from foreign countries and Non Resident Nepali students will have to forward their application to the college for perusal and acceptance of their admission into Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu. Such documents will be needed to get authorized from the Ministry of External Affairs of the student’s resident country and by the Embassy of Nepal.

  4. B.Sc. Nursing
  5. PCL Nursing
  6. Master of Nursing
  7. Diploma in Pharmacy
  8. Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology
  9. Proficiency Certificate Level in Diagnostic Radiography
  10. Proficiency Certificate Level in Physiotherapy

MBBS: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu focuses on teaching basic medical sciences with development in interdepartmental integration and clinical and community correlation for the first two academic years.

Clinical subjects, community medicine and forensic medicine have been arranged to be studied during the next one and a half year from the third academic year onwards, while all the clinical subjects along with management in health, community field experience and junior clinical clerkship continue until the end of the four and a half year of the MBBS curriculum of Tribhuvan University.

The course starts from the month of September every year. It has an intake capacity of 900 students.

  7. Department of Physiology
  8. Department of Forensic Medicine

The fee structure is based on several slabs of different students:

  1. Non resident Nepali students
  2. Students from SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka only)
  3. Indian Students (citizens of India)
  4. Students from other countries.

PG courses: Nepalese Army Institute of Health Sciences Kathmandu started DM program affiliated under Tribhuvan University from 2015.

There are two sessions in a year for MD (Medical) program i.e., February Session and August Session.

They are affiliated to the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training and the Tribhuvan University. They have been recognized and felicitated by several such organizations.
