 MBBS in Nepal is divided into three separate phases. Although there are 9 semesters along with the professional examination held at the end of every year. 

Medical colleges in Nepal follow the same kind of curriculum pattern as in India. This is because the MBBS colleges in Nepal are recognized by the MCI (Medical Commission of India). 

Hence, the semesters are of 6 months and the subjects are divided according to the required phases.

Well, there are three phases in which the subjects or the semester are divided. They are as follows:-

  • Pre-Clinical Phase (From semester 1 to 2)
  • Para-Clinical Phase (From semester 3 to 5) 
  • Clinical Phase (From semester 6 to 9)

Pre-clinical phase 

  1. Anatomy
  2. Biochemistry
  3. Physiology 

Para-Clinical phase

  1. Pathology
  2. Pharmacology
  3. Microbiology
  4. Forensic Medicine
  5. Community Medicine
  6. Clinical postings in Wards

Clinical Phase

  1. Community Medicine
  2. Pediatrics
  3. Surgery and Allied subjects
  4. Medicine and Allied subjects
  5. Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  6. Clinical postings

The Exams conducted after every year is as follows-

  • The First professional exam is conducted after the end of 2nd semester.
  • The second professional exam is conducted after the end of the 5th semester. 
  • The third professional exam is conducted after the end of the 9th semester. 

Gradually, after the 9th semester, clinical and theoretical studies are practically over.

After this, the student is expected to apply for an internship. 

With the guidance of the college supervisor, the student is apprenticed to a senior doctor.

Now, under the guidance of the senior doctor, the student applies his/her theoretical knowledge to practical applications.
