What is counselling?

The procedure of counselling:

The students have appeared for exams like KUMET (Kathmandu University Medical Entrance Test) , KUSMS-ET (Kathmandu University School Medical Sciences Entrance Test) and TU-IOMET (Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine Entrance Test).

The colleges will now release the cutoffs for their respective MBBS(Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery) /BDS(Bachelor of Dental Surgery)in Nepal courses. Upon releasing of the respective ranks/merit scores of selected candidates within stipulated ranges, students will visit the website of respective colleges and confirm their admission to their desired courses.

Eligibility for admission in MBBS in Nepal:

The following conditions and criterion must be met by the willing candidate for acceptance into medical colleges in Nepal for MBBS degree. These standards have been set following the strict guidelines of  Nepal government:

  1. The candidate must have completed their 17 years of age.
  2. They must have passed their 10+2 standard or Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and their major subjects and must not have less than 50% marks in the average aggregate calculated on the basis of these major subjects.

OR

Have completed a bachelor’s degree in any of the subjects: Physics, Chemistry or Biology (B.Sc) from a recognised University, and has studied one other science subject till the ancillary level , with not less than a 50% aggregate and meets the above condition and aggregate requirements of the 10+2 standard.

  • Resident Nepali students have to take the KUMET/KUSMS/TU-IOM exam, which is considered to be the determinant of merit for admission to this college followed by an interview at the medical College after being called which is self financed. Students who are applying from foreign countries and Non Resident Nepali students will have to forward their application to the college for perusal and acceptance of their admission into Medical Colleges in Nepal . Such documents will be needed to get authorized from the Ministry of External Affairs of the student’s resident country and by the Embassy of Nepal. Indian students can take NEET exams and that score is perfectly acceptable.

The percentage of students passing in MCI screening test keeps on increasing.Indian Students who study MBBS In Nepal has pass percentage of 22% in the Medical Council of India Screening Test(FMGE).

Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) passing rate is better in Nepal comparing with other developed countries like Russia, China, etc.

The total timespan of the MBBS/BDS program in Nepal is of 5½ years with 4½years of medical education and clinical training and one year of registered internship with the Medical Council of Nepal.

The MBBS course starts in the month of August / September  every academic year in Nepal. MBBS course is divided into 3 Phases, they are:

1. The first phase: 2 years of duration with the study ofcommunity Medicine & Basic Medicine with Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology

2. The second phase: 1-year duration : to study Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, and Surgery, Gynaecology& Obstetrics, Paediatrics

3. The third Phase: is of 1 ½ year duration: and includes the study of ENT, Orthopaedic, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, Anaesthesiology and Emergency Medicine.

Required preparation and documents for medical counselling in Nepal 2021:

The candidates must have their:

  1. Xth standard mark sheet
  2. Xth standard admit card
  3. XIIth standard mark sheet
  4. Passport size pictures
  5. Mark sheet/score card of UG entrance exam (KUSMS/KUMET/TU-IOM)
  6. Students who are residents of other countries must also have their passport and other relevant migrating documents.
  7. A health certificate and an HIV test report is also mandatory for the counselling procedure.

After the counselling procedure, the candidate must freeze their seats in the respective medical colleges which they have been allotted during counselling. The candidates have to pay the required registration fee to the colleges to secure admission.

The preparation of the candidates:

The candidates must be prepared with photocopies of the above mentioned documents. Other than that they must have mentally decided on a college after having researched about it and reading about it’s programs and offered facilities.

The admission /registration fee is non-refundable and will be forfeited in most cases if a student cancels their admission
