Eligibility for admission for Nepal Medical College andTeaching Hospital:

The following conditions and criterion must be met by the willing candidate for acceptance into Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital for the MBBS degree. These standards have been set following the strict guidelines of Nepal Medical College itself and the Kathmandu University:

  1. The candidate must have completed their 17 years of age.
  2. They must have passed their 10+2 standard or Intermediate of Science (I.Sc) with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry and their major subjects and must not have less than 50% marks in the average aggregate calculated on the basis of these major subjects.

OR

Have completed a bachelor’s degree in any of the subjects: Physics, Chemistry or Biology (B.Sc) from a recognised University, and has studied one other science subject till the ancillary level , with not less than a 50% aggregate and meets the above condition and aggregate requirements of the 10+2 standard.

  • Resident Nepali students have to take the KUMET exam, which is considered to be the determinant of merit for admission to this college followed by an interview at NMC which is self financed. Students who are applying from foreign countries and Non Resident Nepali students will have to forward their application to the college for perusal and acceptance of their admission into Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital. Such documents will be needed to get authorized from the Ministry of External Affairs of the student’s resident country and by the Embassy of Nepal.

MBBS: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Nepal Medical College focuses on teachingbasic medical sciences with development in  interdepartmental integration and clinical and community correlation for the first two academic years.

Clinical subjects, community medicine and forensic medicine have been arranged to be studied during the next one and a half year from the third academic year onwards, while all the clinical subjects along with management in health, community field experience and junior clinical clerkship continue until the end of the four and a half year of the MBBS curriculum of Kathmandu University.

The course starts from the month of August every year.

to meet the emerging socioeconomic changes, epidemiological transition, sudden changes in the nature of responsibilities of all medical professionals with reference to changing circumstances and changes brought about by the effects of the electronic technologies and their contemporary advancements into the working system of individual medical practitioner/practitioners.

Elective Study:

In keeping with the philosophy of adopting the “SPICES” concept of curriculum by Kathmandu University for its MBBS curriculum, the provision of Elective study in the MBBS curriculum, is available at Nepal Medical College And Teaching Hospital.   

Elective studies are basically a foreign concept which have been incorporated by the Kathmandu University and it requires the student to sign a contract with their respective professional guide , who is a medical personnel himself, for an independent study of the duration of four to twelve weeks(as long as the course demands). The areas of elective study depend on the personal interest of the student and he/she/they needs to submit a project proposal to undertake the responsibility of the same. The approach for introducing Elective Studies is basically to sow the seed of research and substantial inference of independent, reliable conclusions in the field of medicine and its effective advancements in today’s world.

The fee structure is based on several slabs of different students :

  1. Non resident Nepali students
  2. Students from SAARC countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka only)
  3. Indian Students (citizens of India)
  4. Students from other countries.

PG courses:Nepal Medical College started DM program  at Nepal Medical College affiliated under  Kathmandu University in Nephrology from March 25, 2011.

MCH programs in UroSurgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery and Neurosurgery have started from the academic year 2014-15.

Nepal Medical College started post graduate MD/MS programs of Kathmandu University in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and Dermatology from March 15, 2009 and since then has added to PG program in Psychiatry,  Microbiology, Pathology, Community Medicine, Physiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Biochemistry. Admission to these courses are done as per the guidelines of Kathmandu University. Nepal Medical College And Teaching Hospital is an epitome in the name of PG programs in medicinal approach. These programs focus on levelling up the edge of the medical graduate and professionally marking him to be a skilled medical personnel of extraordinary excellence.

Newly qualified graduates of Nepal Medical College And Teaching Hospital can sit for Part-1 examination being conducted in October and March. After passing the examination, fellowship is available at Nepal Medical College for residential study and research.

Nepal Medical College started Post Graduate MSc. (Medical) programs of Kathmandu University in Physiology from August 15, 2010 and since then has added to MSc (Medical) program in Pharmacology and Anatomy. There are two session in a year for MSc (Medical) program i.e., Feb Session and Aug Session

Bachelor in Nursing Sciences Program:

This is a 4 year undergraduate program for training and producing caring and competent nurses who are well qualified to handle the socio culture impact of health.

Nepal Medical College has started B. Sc. Nursing program from August 2012 with the affiliation of Kathmandu University.

Selection Criteria

  • Candidates selection will be done on the basis of KU entrance examination and completion of minimum requirements, followed by counselling.
  • Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS):

This is a 4½ year course with one year of compulsory internship after the final examinations. NMC has started BDS program from September 2011. The BDS program is also affiliated to Kathmandu University and is recognized by Nepal Medical Council.

The first two years are spentin teaching of basic Medical Sciences and Dental science subjects in Part I and the remaining two years are spentteaching Part II: Dental Clinical Sciences subjects including community Dentistry/Medical Clinical Sciences Subjects. In case a student fails to secure a pass mark in Part I, he/she/they will not be promoted to Part II.

The criteria for admission to this course is as follows: (for both national and international applicants)

Students may contact Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital for forms, prospectus or other details. Nepali and foreign students will have to take Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination and admissions are strictly according to the merit.

The candidates eligible for admission should have (both national and international applicants):

  1. Passed 10+2 Science (Biology Group) or Equivalent securing at least 50% separately in

Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 50% aggregate in total marks OR

Secured at least C+ grade separately in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least C

grade in remaining individual subjects along with GPA 2.4 OR

Secured the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level

programs (A-Level) with different grading system

OR

  1. Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level /Diploma

(General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science,

Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) with Certificate of Equivalence to

Grade 12 Science program from National Examination Board AND

  1. Secured at least 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 50% aggregate

in total marks both in Diploma and the Examination for Equivalence AND

  1. Registered in Nepal Health Professional council or Nepal Pharmacy Council or Nepal

Ayurveda Council as per related educational program.
