Around 26,000 health employees have been adjusted at the federal, provincial, and local levels since the country adopted federalism, including 242 specialty doctors and 665 medical officials. 82 percent (22,103 people) work for the municipal government, 8.6 percent (2,308 people) for the province government, and 8% (2,151 people) for the federal government.
The Ministry of Health, on the other hand, has been silent on the recruitment of doctors in Nepal, claiming that it must first address the problems of serving doctors.
Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, the ministry's spokesman, agrees that recruitment of doctors in Nepalhas halted since the adjustment process began. “Positions have stayed unfilled for a long time, and this has affected health services,” he says.
